Lukas Walton
Executive Chairman & Founder, Builders Vision
Lukas Walton is Founder & Executive Chairman of Builders Vision, an investment and philanthropy platform investing innovative capital to build a more resilient future.
Based in Chicago, Builders Vision’s nearly 100-person team manages over $15 billion across multiple asset classes and focuses on three sectors: food & agriculture, energy and oceans. Its diverse, forward-thinking team includes investors, entrepreneurs, engineers, advocates and scientists who are deploying flexible capital today to build the economy of tomorrow.
Lukas’ vision to drive systemic change started in earnest over a decade ago. In 2014, he founded S2G Ventures (now S2G Investments) - with an initial $100 million fund focused on sustainable food and agriculture. S2G grew to manage $2.5 billion in capital with over 100 portfolio companies and is now an independent multi-stage investment firm focused on venture and growth-stage businesses.
The Financial Times underscored the systems-level strategy that defines his work: “Walton’s theory of change requires going one step further than picking individual investments: it requires a ‘systems approach’ that pulls in reform-minded organisations in an effort to collectively shift given sectors onto a more impact-friendly footing.”
Lukas was recognized for his leadership and named a member of the TIME 100 Climate Leaders list for his “investments aimed at delivering both environmental and financial returns.”
Lukas deeply cares about and supports his home city, Chicago. Of nearly $700 million in philanthropic capital distributed by the team at Builders Vision, over $140 million has been granted to Chicago-based organizations.
He also serves as Chair of the Walton Conservation Coalition, is a Board Member of the Walton Family Foundation, and a member of its Environmental Committee.
